Managers Match Report

Well the last game of the season, wishing to finish on a high note and a win but sadly not to be, first half some staunch defending against a physical but fair side kept it to( 0-0 )at half time, the back four all contributing to a good display in defence limiting Ford to the early pressure. We tried to get at them down both wings but could not get behind them and if we did they were very strong in defence not giving our forwards an inch.We got more in to it as the half went on but looked a stalemate all over,Robson and Harrison breaking every thing up that they through at us and there defence doing the same to us, our passing game was on but in places failed to compete, things will have to change next year.

Halftime was all about competing and closing down.

Second half we shown why we are champions, playing some good attacking play but against run of play mid way through the half,  a counter attack and Shirebrook scored(0-1 Shirebrook). We were doing all the right things but could not capitalise on the possession,Lee not getting a look in up front then with 10 mins left to go Musgrove was fouled just outside the box on the left,Robert took the kick and scored (1-1).We deserved the goal on our second half performance, but Shirebrook were strong to a man and with about 2mins left they broke play up just inside our half and one of there players volleyed it forward clearing Ford with no chance of stopping (1-2 Shirebrook).

I think Adam mentioned it after we had played there you have to earn the right to play good football, that means every one competing.

Good performances-Robson,Harrison,Grafton,C.Rodgers,Roberts,Smith and Musgrove second half.

1st May  2010 – League Match  WJFC v Beaufort United  7-2 ( D.Rodgers 2,Roberts,Robson,Lee, o.g,Musgrove)

Man of the Match  Ethan Smith

Managers Match Report

On a nice May morning the boys turned out to play and play they did,the message was keep doing what we had been doing in the last few weeks and they did not let us down.In the 2nd minute Harrison playing on the right took the ball to the bye line and crossed a superb ball in for D. Rodger’s to head home from close (1-0 Walesby). From the restart Robson broke play up lay-ed the ball to Smith on the left and did exactly as Harrison 1 minute earlier and D.Rodgers was on the same spot again to get his and Walesby’s 2nd(2-0Walesby)We could not of got off to a better start, the confidence the throughout the team was fantastic, breaking play up and dominating play in there half, with the defenders holding a high back line, with every player wanting to play,so proud if i say it my self.On 15 mins D.Rodgers recieved the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal with out complicating it he lay-ed it back to Roberts 5yds further out and wait for it,yes volleyed it in to the roof of the net what a goal(3-0 Walesby).Beaufort were trying there best but we were to strong for them but against the run of play they got a ball mid way in our half, we backed off instead of pressing and they finished well(3-1 Walesby). This did not dampen our spirit even though it was a sloppy give away,Beaufort got there spirits up and tried to make a game of it, with a lot of long ball forward but Jones and Breed kept the pressure off Ford in goal,Beaufort’s corners were there main chance for them but Ford organised his defence well. With 10mins to go in the half we got a corner on the left, Robson took the corner and hit the back post with it, the keeper got a hand to it but could not keep it out (4-1 Walesby)It was nice to see Grafton and C.Rodgers composed on the ball and knocking it about,it was Grafton who got us the corner with sensible play on the left that led to Robson’s goal, with 5mins to go C.Rodgers controlled a dodgy ball, made space played it to Roberts who played in Lee to beat the off side trap 25 yard out, you don’t have to ask he did the business and slotted low to the right (5-1 Walesby).

Half time the warning was only about complaciency, closing them down early and there good corners. Oh and Jones 10 press ups. Thanks

Second half i changed the side around a lot  and played a few players out of there comfort zone, but we still did well, it did give Beaufort a lot more opportunity but with in 5mins of the restart Reddington went on a run down the left knocked a ball into the box and the covering defender knocked it in his own goal (6-1Walesby).Like i said Beaufort got more play and into our half a lot more and with 15mins gone they hit a good volley from about 35 yard on the right and beat Ford who was off his line, unstoppable.(6-2 Walesby).5 mins later they had another unstoppable shot from 20 yard out and Ford dived low to his right and flicked it round brilliant, what a save. Harrison  now playing in the middle of midfield layed a ball straight between there 2 centre backs,Reddington homed in on goal shot and the keeper parried it to Musgrove to score from close range (7-2Walesby).

Great team performance,Well done to you all.Champions.

24th April 2010 – League Match  WJFC v Manor 4TH 3-0 (Lee 2, D.Rodgers )

Man of the Match  Ben Lee

Managers Match Report

Into the final 3 games all at home and the pitch looked the best its done all season, but with the dry weather a little bit firm, pre match discussion was about passing and control due to a bad bounce putting us in trouble. From the kick off the team worked hard to keep the game in Manor’s half Jones in goal was a spectator for most of the half with the defence playing mainly on the half way line, after several chances had gone begging with some fine keeping and defending from there No 6, Lee pulled a cross down on the edge of the box and played it into the bottom right corner on 10mins (1-0 Walesby) Some fine passing and resolute defending we kept the pressure on until half time without extending our lead.

Not much to say at halftime a part from getting control again from the restart.

Straight from the kick we took control and with in a minute Roberts sent a brilliant defence splitting pass to the ever willing Lee who always seams to be on the shoulder of the last defender ready to pounce and he did just that to make it his and Walesby’s second (2-0 Walesby) . Jones out of goal at half time worked well up the right with Lee the second half giving us plenty of possession on the right, again as in the first half some fine keeping and some excellent defending by their man of the match (No 6) kept us at bay. In the last minutes of the game a pass from Harrison out to Jones who combined well with Lee, who made a run to the bye line and pulled it back for D.Rodgers to tap home (3-0 Walesby).

A fine display of passing through out the game never put us in doubt every one playing there part ,it’s very refreshing seeing everyone playing with such confidence, it makes me feel very proud when the opposing team make such nice comments. Well done everyone.

10th April 2010 – League Match Robin Hood Colts v WJFC 3-9 (Jones 2, D.Rodgers 2, Reddington 2, Musgrove, Roberts & Lee )

Man of the Match  Tom Ford

Managers Match Report

Well its nice to say the weather was great probably too warm for kids running about but excellent to watch, Walesby didn’t let us down. The team started full of confidence and played it around well, breaking everything up, high up the pitch, a few near misses early on, with ball going away from us each time we were ready to shoot, fine work in the middle of the park by Roberts and Jones was causing a lot of the problems and it was this pair that got us on the way with Jones scoring on 6mins (1-0 Walesby). Well Robin Hood were back in it on 9mins, a big kick up field from their keeper caused a problem with centre backs not talking to each other, by the time we had got control of the ball we could only give it to one of their midfielders who hit it from 20yards with the keeper given no chance.(1-1). The two centre midfielders were well on their game and with in a minute Jones was on the score sheet again (2-1 Walesby). The team had a nice look to it with a lot of good passing and control to it,we were getting to the edge of there box quite easily, the wide players were playing their part Smith on the left and Richardson on the right having some great runs and it was a run by Richardson who knocked the ball into the crowded box where Musgrove had great control  turn and slotted passed  the keeper, he likes a celebration (3-1 Walesby). I could only see one winner at this stage we were totally in control and was good to watch, almost an identical ball from their keeper gave them the same outcome, to be fair to the defenders it was a new centre back pairing of season and another fine shot from 20yards (3-2Walesby). Fine work by Smith on the left set up the supporting Roberts who was in fine form, to create a bit of space to make a fine shot past their keeper (4-2 Walesby). There was so much good about this first half performance that I didn’t want half time to come but it did.

Well nothing but praise at half time, a little concern about closing down for their 2 goals. Their keeper had kicked some long balls and kicking up hill the second half, I changed the back four to combat this and give us some pace out from the full backs.

The game plan worked for us I put new wide men on for fresh legs and a bit more pace up front if they played a high back line, it couldn’t have worked better Ecott and Robson were holding their forwards and we continued to control and pass the ball, Roberts was exceptional in the middle of the park all the game breaking play and feeding balls into our players. Jones now working the right, D.Rodgers on the left were getting the ball behind their defence and also playing some nice through ball for the forwards, there was lots of confidence and good play all over the park .D.Rodgers  played a through ball to the on running Reddington to lash it into the roof of the net (5-2 Walesby). The second half looked like the Reddington, Rodgers show as they alternated the next 3 goals, working well together down the left, D.Rodgers scoring from close range (6-2 Walesby). Another hiccup where Robin Hood got the ball centrally again, trying to play the ball out and they cut out a loose ball to drill it in from a distance again,3 excellent strikes by Robin Hood (6-3 Walesby). Straight from the kick off a through ball from Robson got Reddington in who again lashed it from 20yards to score another great goal, when would end excellent attacking play (7-3Walesby) Well likeIi said this time it was D.Rodgers turn, fine play by Jones on the right got Lee away, he took it right to the by line and a shot from close range getting a corner from the save, Jones knocked a great corner in and D.Rodgers headed home from close range (8-3Walesby). Well the hard working Lee had not had any breaks in front of goal the ball either going away from him or a fine save, well he did it with the last goal of the game, Jones again on the right doing fine inter play with Roberts, then Jones sent Lee away he ran the ball in from 40yards to slot coolly past their keeper (9-3Walesby).

What a performance, the level of play by all the team was great, we looked to have got back to the level we had before Christmas. Well done well impressed.

Good performances – Jones,Roberts,Reddington,D.Rodgers, once again a high level of team performance.

27thMarch 2010 – League Match Manor 4th Black v WJFC 0-3(D.Rodgers,Robson,Lee )

Man of the Match  Ben Lee

Managers Match Report

On a windy day and a boggy pitch in places it didn’t look good for a great game, we talked about keeping the ball down and playing when we could on the good parts of the pitch. The attitude of the players were top draw as we dominated the first half with some good passing football from the back to the front, it was one of these moves after 5 mins that got us the first goal, Harrison pulled the ball down with some fine control and spreading it out to C.Rodgers who in turn played it down the line to Richardson, he played it to Lee, Lee pulled the ball in side for Roberts to cross for D.Rodgers to poke home on the back post.0-1 Walesby. The game was all one way and we held a high line with Manor struggling to cross the half way line, succeeding only by kicking it long, Jones was always equal to any ball coming through and was quick to distribute it to get us on another attack, whether it was the impressive Grafton or C.Rodgers we got forward very quickly to raise another chance. About another 7 mins gone and a few chances missed a second came from some fine play on the right once again, Lee getting behind there defence causing panic, with good distribution he laid Richardson in on the right who crossed the ball with it coming out to D.Rodgers on the left, he dribbled it back into the box and laid it off for Robson to get the second.0-2 Walesby .With the amount of play and chances plus some good goalkeeping and defending especially their no 6 we could have been in double figures at half time but not to be.

Half time talk was about more of the same and to keep our discipline and watch the wind.

It was probably harder in the second because both the bad areas on the pitch was in this half, we also had the wind with us, we continued to dominate the half, with Manor creating a couple of half chances which could of embarrassed us for the misses in the first half. We continued to play up to their 18yd box but Manor m.o.m No6 was keeping us at bay, Smith and Taylor continued to get down the wings, but we just could not capitalise on the possession, then about 20 mins into the second half Lee got on to a ball in the the box and cleanly finished a well earned goal.0-3 Walesby. Another fine effort and good football, well done to all.

Good performances-All the team best team performance so far. Well done.

20thMarch 2010 – League Match Q.E.Rangers v WJFC 1-6(Robson 3,Musgrove,Lee & Grafton)

Man of the Match  Luke Richardson

Managers Match Report

On a wet Saturday morning we got back to the way we know how to play, there was a nice feeling to our game with control and passing the nature of the day. The most important thing in football is how you respond to defeat, and the response was good.  After 7 mins, good work by Richardson on the right got to the bye line, pulling it back to Musgrove on the edge of the box where he passed it into the 6 yard box for Robson to drive the ball home 1-0 Walesby. From the re-start QE drove forward and Keeper Jones held their effort and threw the ball out to Smith who in turn played it up the line to D.Rodgers where he dribbled it down the left to the bye line and pulled it back to Robson to score his second in a minute  2-0 Walesby. It all seamed to be one way traffic and QE couldn’t get over the half way line, 20mins gone Richardson made another fine run down the right, played it on down the right to Lee who took it to the bye line played it to the waiting Musgrove to score from close range.3-0 Walesby. The defence had been doing some fine work this half holding everything to long shots, Breed reading the game very well, Smith having some fine touches and starting some good moves down the left. Ecott breaking a lot up through the middle and C.Rodger’s playing Richardson in down the right. 5 mins before the break QE n0 7 stole the ball from Ecott and just beat the on coming Jones to get a goal for his hard work and running in the first half.3-1Walesby.

Team talk mainly was about keeping there positions as we had a few players trying to be on the ball to much, and not using the pitches width.

Second half it was more of the same with a few changes to give everybody a run out, Reddingtoncameon for Richardson on the right, the change was like for like and the momentum never changed with Reddington having some great runs, Reddington could have possibly had a few goals but he opted to play the ball off to the all action lee, who works tirelessly for the team every week, but was not getting the breaks in front of goal this week.10mins into the half one of Reddington’s run caused a panic in the Q.E. goal area for it to drop to Robson, guess what? he go his third. 4-1 Walesby. The game was over as a game with the confidence now oozing like it was before Christmas, 5min later Smith as he did in the first  half played it to D.Rodgers who one two’d with Grafton and the playedanexcellent ball in for Lee who just shot wide, great move.minutes later play was broken up on our left corner flag with patient work by Breed, he played Smithin, who found Reddington  in turn for him to knock a fine ball for lee who ran the full length of the half to eventually get on the score sheet 5-1 Walesby. Walesby were really knocking the ball about and playing some good football but every so often we lost it with a wrong selection of pass or getting caught on the ball, which had to keep Jones on his toes. 5mins left and another fine run by Reddington on the right put Lee through on the right where he played to Grafton on the edge of the box, where he chipped the goal keeper.6-1 Walesby.

Well done again lads, you got the passing game going this week, now lets get the full commitmant to go with it.

Good performances from Smith,Robson, Richardson,Breed,Jones and Reddington second half.

13thMarch 2010 – League Match Blidworth v WJFC 2-1(Lee)

Man of the Match – Ethan Smith

Managers Match Report

Well it was nice to see the commitment back against a very capable Blidworth side, we started very well with some good passing and moves on a big pitch, D,Rodgers and Richardson worked well on the wings and got some good ball into the forwards. On 10mins one of these runs by Rodgers put a ball into Musgrove who played it to Lee to just put wide, there was a lot of sparing in the half with Blidworth trying to get in behind us, and Lee and  Musgrove doing the same but with  a few chances for both sides  just going wide the score stayed 0-0 up to half time.

The message at half time was still keep playing it simple, control and pass.

We continued to commit to the battle against a very committed Blidworth side and half way through the second half the break through arrived,Lee was put through from Roberts and he seized the challenge driving it in to the net 1-0 Walesby. The match was in full flight with end to end football not really getting into the penalty areas, but two committed sides. We really didn’t take the pressure off and keep the ball as much i would like, credit to  Blidworththeywere not laying down and with 10mins to go they got into the area with a maize dribble and shot to equalise .1-1. Thinking a fair result on there commitment they had the belief they could still win and we started to get a bit scrappy, with a minute to go Blidworth got the winner in very good competitive game.

Well done to all the lads……keep up the hard work and keep your heads up.

Good performances from Smith, Jones,Roberts,Robson and Lee.

6thMarch 2010 – League Match WJFC V Mansfield Athletic 3-4 (Musgrove, Robson (not Roberts) & Ecott)

Man of the Match – Ben Jones

Managers Match Report

Back to league action with what I felt for the home team was a disappointing start.  We were very poor in the first half with no passing, talking, working together and where was the passion that was talked about in the week at training as we really needed it today?  Mansfield made all the play and easily went 2-0 up. Our first goal from Musgrove came before half time which made it 2-1 and we were lucky to keep this score to the break.   Four changes just before the second half and a team talk which seemed to have made a difference.  With Smithhaving some fine touches and creating two goal scoring chances for Lee but unfortunately the Mansfield keeper made great saves on both occasions that kept the score at 2-1.  With us pressing hard for that equaliser we were stung by a fine break when Mansfield stole the ball and scored 3-1.   Good passing between Jones & Smithcreated  a chance for Robson(not Roberts) to make the score 3-2.  It wasn’t to be and Mansfield had another run found the back of the net 4-2.  With the clock ticking Ecott had touch and scored for us 4-3 which at the whistle made it a deserved win for Mansfield Athletic.  For me respect is very important and starts at home ,so for next week let us loose the attitude and focus on working together as a team and hopefully the right results will follow.

Good performance from Smith, Ford, Jones, Breed, Roberts & Lee who yet again gave 100% commitment for the team.

Thanks lads

Adam

27th Febuary 2010 – KO Cup Match Shirebrook Rangers Blue v WJFC  4-2 (Lee & Roberts)

Man of the Match – Jones & Roberts

Managers Match Report

With the weather finally better the KO Cup match against Shirebrook was on and despite the heavy rain the pitch was in very good condition.  I told the lads before the game that it would be a battle against a very good hard working and physical Shirebrook team and I wasn’t wrong.  From the kick off we had a spell of about ten minutes where we were in control of the game and went 1-0 up after some very good passing football between Jones and Roberts which was scored by Ben Lee. Shirebrook then seemed to find the gear they were looking for and put us under lots of pressure scoring two goals before half time, the first coming from a corner which C Rodgers put into his own net under a lot of pressure from a Shirebrook player and the second when Ford spilled the ball which the striker slotted home.  Half time brought five changes with Taylor, Richardson, Ecott, Grafton and D Rodgers coming on to try and get the equalizer .  Shirebrookcontinued to dominate with the score now2-1, Jones and Breed were working well with excellent defending to keep the score down for WJFC.  But it was from another corner that Shirebrook extended their lead when Grafton put through his own net to make it the second own goal of the game, trying to get the lads heads up and getting them playing like the first ten minutes of the game was a real struggle but with Lee and Ecott now starting to be on the same wave length we created two very good chances which Lee was very unlucky to not score one of them . Roberts who in my view was one of four players that stood out on the day scored a goal which he deserved to make the game 3-2 but unfortunately  Shirebrook went straight back down the other end and made it 4-2 which was the final score.

Lads, football isn’t always all about playing the pretty, passing, flowing football we all know you can play, sometimes it’s more about attitude, passion ,team spirit and the willingness to compete. Which today I thought the opposition had the passion, were stronger and worked very well together to gain a deserved win.

Very good performances from Lee, Breed Jones and Roberts.   Cheers lads, remember keep your heads up for next week’s game back to league action!

13th Febuary 2010 – League Match    WJFC v Tibshelf Community 2-2 (Roberts, Richardson.)

Man of the Match - Ben Lee

Managers Match Report

Again a 50/50 chance the game would be on with the pitch just playable, the conditions quite the same as the away leg,and the play similar only this time we got onto the score sheet first.Several runs down the right by Taylor brought the rewards eventually,Taylor had got to the bye line  several times but cut back on to his left foot which allowed Tibshelf the chance to get players back, on 12mins he got to the line and crossed straight away, forcing the defence to spoon the ball  clear to the edge of the box where Roberts was on it like a flash, shooting on the volley in to the goal.1-0 Walesby.Like i said the game was much like the away leg with us having a lot of  the possession  but being smothered with to much play in the middle and a reluctance to move the ball quicker, i could only see Tibshelf scoring from mistakes but not taking anything away from there efforts. The half run its course with us getting to there box  but some stout defending and goal keeping kept the score to 1-0.

Half time  the message again was about releasing the ball quicker and opening the play up.

Whether its been the long lay off or the state of our pitch because things did not get much better in the second half, if Tibshelf  had one thing in there favour was the team spirit and effort to the end, this got them there just rewards because they equalised from a poorly taken goal kick 1-1, then to top it off three of our defenders chased a long ball out to the corner flag and there forward knocked the ball in to the area where they had got two players waiting to score.2-1 Tibshelf.Well if there was one good thing i could see was our commitment after going behind,we still tended to fall into the trap of doing to much on the ball and allowing Tibshelf to get a foot in.The move of the match was when Lee picked the ball up in the centre circle and did a one – two with Smith, on receiving the ball back he played the ball in to Richardson’s path with him to smash the ball against the up right from 18yds.Richardson had given us that bit of pace on the right and his direct play and crosses were causing them problems, and it was one of his runs that got us the equaliser, picking the ball up on the right 40yds out he run and cut in and drilled passed there goalkeeper.2-2.With 10mins left we pushed for a winner but could not enforce it, with chances going begging.Well battled Tibshelf.

Good performances by Roberts,Lee, Rodgers & Robson Richardson and Smith second half.

30th January 2010 – League Match  Mansfield Athletic  v  WJFC 1-3(Lee 2,Roberts)

Man of the Match - Tom Ford

Managers Match Report

Well it was nice to get back into football after a long winter lay off,  this game was in doubt but a later k.o gave us the day. The talk of the day was to continue where we left off and we did that withagoalfor Roberts with in the first 5mins, a long ball from Ecott in defence was controlled and passed by Musgrove to Roberts where he beat a player took the ball into the area and passed the ball into the bottom right hand corner 0-1 Walesby. We had a good run of possession with out really troubling their keeper and be able to capitalise on it,  Mansfield started to get into the game a bit more  and they equalised 25 mins gone, 1-1. This spurred them on and Ford made a couple of good saves to keep us in the game up to half time.

The talk at half time consisted of taking a touch and controlling the ball, there was to much of a willingness to play the ball the first time, which resulted in  giving the possession away to easy.

Second half started as much as the first half withLee on as a second half sub scoring with in 5 mins of the kick off, Harrison also on as a sub picked up the ball in his own half and played it up to Musgrove who flicked the ball on to the run of Lee,  Lee run 30 yards and coolly passed the ball into the net.1-2 Walesby. The game was more open in the second half and some good football played by both teams, Ford in outstanding form pulled off another couple of good saves, Mansfield must have been disappointed because of  the saves he was pulling off. Half way through the second half Mansfield took a corner where the ball was cleared out to D. Rodgers on the right wing, taking good control he looked up and passed it up the line to Lee who rounded his marker and charged onto goal coolly slotting it passed the keeper,1-3 Walesby.Well i was a little bit happier with a 2 goal lead because of the efforts Mansfield were getting, we seamed to have as much of the ball but not really getting a good effort on goal. Mansfield kept having a go but again Ford was there in their way, I have not seen as many saves made in a game of that standard possibly 7 first class.

Good perfomances by Ford, C.Rodgers, Breed, Musgrove & Lee.

5th December 2009 – League Match  Rainworth Rangers Yellow  v  WJFC 2-3(Lee ,Robson 2)

Man of the Match - Ethan Smith

Managers Match Report

Well a 3G  pitch lots of people don’t like to play on them but for me it’s a great surface and pitch to test your ability, from the kick of i thought we were up for it knocking the ball about well, and for a couple of good stops from the Ranger’s keeper we would have soon been on the score sheet. Lee started brightly and had a couple of good runs and it was one of these runs down the left on 15mins which got us on the score sheet,C.Rodgers won the ball at left back and played it with the outside of the boot up to Ecott who moved it on with the same type ball, Lee was on to it like a flash, run to the corner of the box and layed it back for Robson to drive home.0-1 Walesby. This spurred Rangers in to the game because they dominated the rest of the second half, our reluctance to take a touch in a windy game just kept giving the ball back to Rangers, who did not need any encouragement to have a go at us,Ford in goal was keeping us in front with some fine handling. It was only a matter of time though for Rangers to get back on terms because there were to many of us not in the race, a ball bounced loose on the edge of our box and Rangers were the quickest to react and slotted past Ford on 25mins1-1.Well we did not learn and with Rangers tails up it was all on way traffic and from a corner in the last minute of the half we failed to clear and Ranger scored at the near post. 2-1 Rangers.

Well the talk at half time was about our ability to hold on to the ball and not to rush our kicks, control on a pitch like this is important and with our ability we should have been doing better.

Second half after a few changes were made , we were quick out the blocks once again, Roberts won the ball in mid park and played to Reddington who took a nice touch looked up and played it down the line to Lee, he cut inside and coolly, no very coolly playeditbytheon coming keeper after 1min of the restart.2-2 Back on terms.Well we then started to do what we are good at and took the game by the horns, playing the game in there half most of the time.It was Ranger’s keeper who was working the hardest this time, to be fair the wind was a contributing factor as we were getting most of the breaks this half, what breaks Rangers did get the back line was holding them out with Smith making his debut at right back  getting mom award for his efforts against there tall centre forward. We huffed and puffed but could not get a break through and it was looking like a draw then a quick short corner from D. Rodgers to Robson out on the right, he turned got it on his left foot and drove home from the corner of the box.2-3 Walesby. Final whistle, talk about leaving it late……

Game of 2 halves, battled well second half but could of been out of it in the first, well done Ford.

Good performances by Ford, Breed, Robson, Reddington, Ecott,& Roberts,Smith and Grafton second half.

Well done,

Stef.

Withthe heavy rain through the night the game was in doubt, but both teams agreed it was worth playing.Well Walesbystartedthe brighter and with in 5mins Lee go this name on the score sheet, a fine defence splitting pass from Roberts got Lee running onto the ball with just the keeper to beat 1-0 Walesby. The team are starting to play for each other and understand each others play and on 10mins Lee playedanicegive and go with Taylor on the right, Lee hit the bye-line and crossed, Musgrove was there to tap in from 6yds 2-0 Walesby.Robson and Roberts were dominating everything in mid park but with the pitch very sticky there, they were playing to instruction on moving it on quicker, and it was another splitting pass that got Lee away again, this time he had to hold off a strong challenge from the Blidworth centre back, but for a small lad he did the business, made space and slotted his second Walesby’s third.3-0Walesby.I couldn’t be more pleased with the attitude and performance by everyone , good work from Richardson at right back got it down the right to Taylor who pulled it inside to Robson who played a nice ball for Lee, who was tackled by two players but still had the resilience to come away with it, he crossed the ball which was cleared to Robson who took control and drove it back into the goal.4-0 Walesby.Thinking about the half time talk and changes Blidworth got in on a loose ball there first of the half,(Richardson,Harrison,Breed,C.Rodgers & Jones made sure of that) to get a well taken goal.4-1 Walesby.Again half time pending we kicked off and within a minute we had the ball in the back of the net, Musgrove took a long ball on the edge of the box, turned is man after the challenge and slotted his second and Walesby’s fifth 5-1 Walesby.Well for the second week thinking 5-1 at half time, great performance,Blidworth still had a go and stole another goal just before the whistle, 5-2 Walesby.

Halftime talk was about the great application by all the team but the resilience on accepting the score and working to tighten up.

Freshening the team up, the challenge was to maintain the performance, Ecott and D.Rodgers came on for Lee and Musgrove,Grafton for C.Rodgers, nothing wrong withthere performances but to get the subs on.The second half started same as the first with Walesby dominating the match, Robson and Roberts were holding the midfield Taylor and Reddington making roaming runs down the flanks,Reddington was showing the ability we all know he’s got, after several runs down either side Reddington cut back on to his right foot half way through the second half and let it rip from 20yds,unstoppable 6-2 Walesby.Blidworth were always trying to make a game of it but some staunch defending by Harrison, Grafton, Richardson and the excellent Breed kept Jones to nearly a spectator,Taylor was pushed forward for the last 10mins basically to give D.Rodgers more play on the right and the swap round worked because D.Rodgers picked the ball up wide right, drove inwards layed off to Roberts who quickly layed Taylor in on the edge of the box to fire home at the near post.7-2 Walesby.

Another great team performance and worked hard to keep  a clean sheet second half, Ecott worked hard and layed off some good balls in the second half.

Good performances by all the team but top performances by Breed, Robson,Roberts, &  Lee first half .

21st  November 2009 – League Match  Beaufort v WJFC  1-5(Lee 2,Musgrove,Roberts,Robson)

Man of the Match - Ewan Robson

Managers Match Report:

The pre-match talk was about being more resilient when we don’t have the ball, we had a great start to the game with Lee running in on a failed clearance,to pass the ball into the net after 4mins.0-1 Walesby. One minute later we were two  up with good control by C.Rodgers at left back just inside of his own half, he cut in an pushed the ball  to Jones who passed the ball down the left for Lee to run onto where he crossed from inside the box and Musgrove was there to slot home. 0-2 Walesby. We did not have to wait much longer for the third, 15mins gone and Roberts did some fine work on the edge of the box after a failed clearance from a Richardson cross, he pushed it wide of the closing defender and shot into bottom left of the goal.0-3 Walesby. It was not that we were not in a game because Beaufort were having a right go, and had forced about 5 corners and it was from a corner they got there break through, they knocked the ball into the front post and Ford came to punch the ball but did not get much distance on it and the ball was driven back in 1-3 Walesby. This gave Beaufort a spur and started to push harder, the resilience we spoke about was starting to appear but looked a bit untidy and we were giving corners away cheaply, every time they had a corner we looked vulnerable (must practice defending corners),we road our look a bit and some excellent football through  midfield, and a through ball to Lee got him away on goal and he finished well. 1-4 Walesby. Well thinking 4-1 at half time is not bad, Robson picked the ball up just in side there half and run on a few yards and shot passed the keeper 1-5 Walesby, half time.

Well the only concern at half time was defending there corners, and the resilience of holding onto the score.

If i don’t say anything more about the second half it was a better team performance than the first, we did not score but we dominated the game keeping the ball in Beaufort’s half  90% of the time and restricted them to a couple of corners where it had sunk in with better tactics,Ford bossing the area. The back four in the second half held a high back line and stopped everything going past them.

Good performances by Rodgers,Taylor,Roberts,Jones,Robson,Lee. Once again the second half was a very good performance.Well done to you all and thanks to your effort.Keep up the good work.

14th November 2009 – League Match  WJFC v Rainworth Rangers A. 4-3(Lee 3,Robson)

Man of the Match - Ben Lee

Managers Match Report:

With an early pitch inspection the game declared on, the goal mouths a bit bogey but the rest of the pitch ok, a request to the team to get back to winning ways with a little bit more effort off the ball.

With a good start for a change we had most of the play and with in 5 mins Lee broke clear and slotted home 1-0 Walesby. Rangers were very strong and had a good range to their passing and started to put us on the back foot but we had a bit more resilience and kept them at bay, Breed doing well at the heart of defence with good support from his partner Harrison and C. Rodgers and Taylor stopping play down the flanks. Everything that went over the top Ford was there to pick up in goal(good communication), withaquick kick from Ford up field Lee nodded back to Roberts on the half way line with good control he put it straight back over Rangers defence for Lee to sprint onto to get his second with 20 mins gone.2-0 Walesby. What a week a difference  can make because everything Lee got onto he scored and it was not long before he was on is hat-trick this time making his own chance with some skill on the edge of the box.3-0 Walesby. You see why Rangers were having a good season by their attitude to never say die, and they got their just rewards when a free kick from 20yards out was knocked in then cleared, while we failed to get out Rangers knocked the ball in again this time they scored from close range.3-1 Walesby.

Half time we spoke about there attitude to battle and having to match them with effort and not just skill, we started well but with Grafton & D.Rodgers coming on up front it was taking a little while for them to get into the game, Jones had come on for Roberts and was pushing some nice balls through for the front two but it was Rangers who were to get on the score sheet next, they broke down the left and out ran the fullback knocking the ball into the edge of the box for Rangers to put it passed Ford right.3-2 Walesby game on.  The Rangers management were really trying to enthuse their lads to push on and get something out of the game but Walesby were not going to be pushed aside by some strong tackling and from a tackle 25 yard out Robson shot and scored top right of the goal.4-2 Walesby. The game was end to end and Rangers to their credit were really giving it their best shot and pulled another goal out of the bag 4-3 Walesby, Rangers really had their tails up now but with great resilience Walesby held the score to get a good win.

Good performances by Lee,Breed,Taylor,Roberts,Robson,C.Rodgers and Jones. Better team performance keep up the good work.

7th November 2009 Shield Match -  WJFC v Rolls Royce 1-5 (Lee)

Man of the Match - Ben Lee

Managers Match Report:

The score line does not reflect the result, the score could have been 5-5 but the concern is we still let 5 goals in. The game started a bit eratic as expected for a cup game but I did not really look to concerned about the way we were playing, after 5minsashoveontheedgeofourbox and the ref blew but didn’t indicate anything and Rolls seamed to decide it was a penalty.0-1 I was still not to concerned because we had seen a couple of shots wide and a couple of saves stopped, half way through the half Robson swung the ball in from the left and with the keeper coming out to collect Lee flicked it over the keeper the passed the ball in 1-1.Within 5 mins Rolls went back up the field and scored passed Ford at the near post, 1-2  we went back at Rolls again but the result stayed the same to half time.

Half time talk was not to much about the way we were playing but more about application and finishing, but keep up the good work.

Second half .  D & C  Rodger’s and Musgrove came on to freshen the side up but before they could get into the game we were 1-3 down, we were still playing the best football and still getting into Rolls box but good keeping and with some staunch defending we could not break through, Rolls seam to have some thing to fight for and being caught on the counter we let 2 more in. Refs don’t score or let goals in, so it does not matter how good he was…..

Heads up Lads.Lets show what we can do next game.

31st October 2009 League Match - Tibshelf Community v WJFC 2-1 (Robson)

Man of the Match – Ewan Robson

Managers Match Report:

The game kicked off on a very tacky pitch after the excessive rain the night before, we were looking to continue our winning form but same as the previous weeks we were slow out the blocks, we were trying to play the correct way but failed to open up in possession and were smothered quite easily. After 10 mins we lost the ball just inside Tibshelfshalf and with a long punt forward Jones attempted to head clear but failed to get high enough and the ball had the pace taken off it for there forward to lash onto a long shot from 25 yard giving Ford no chance in goal, 1-0 down.  We huffed and puffed for the rest of the half but failed to make any direct effort on goal, we rolled a few into the keepers arms, miss hit a few and failed to get on some decent crosses.

Half time was all about talking and concentrating on our own individual performances.  Controll was a strong topic because several players were letting the ball bounce on a poor surface and with Tibshelf’s smoothering effect they were soon dispossessing us and clearing there lines. 10minsinto the second half a nice cut and run from Robson got us back on level terms withafineshotfromtheedgeofthe box1-1.  Most of the second half was as the first with us trying to get a winner and Tibshelf smoothering our play and clearing there lines, they worked very hard at getting possession back and several times dispossessed us and formed there own attacks, niether keeper were made to work and the game looked like being a draw, 2 mins to go and Tibshelf broke clear and took an early shot to the top left hand corner me thinking goal but Ford pulled off a brilliant one handed save.  Thinking that was close another attack by Tibshelf got the winning goal of the game,2-1 Tibshelf.   Thinking about the game fair result would have been a draw but Tibshelf did battle harder than us.

I think we should stick to the simple parts of our game which has got us the rewards.  Good performances from Grafton,Robson and Roberts and a stunning save by Ford.

24thOctober 2009 League Match - Shirebrook Rangers Red v WJFC 2-5 (Ecott 2, Robson, Jones,OG)

Man of the Match – Ben Jones

Managers Match Report:

The team talk before the game was all about pass, move & support, which from the kick off up to half time didn’t happen. When we did pass the ball to each other it created the first goal of the game with a fine pass from Roberts finished off by Ecott.  With a little bit of poor defending we let Shirebrookback into the game to make the score 1-1, with five minutes left before halftime good passing between Lee & Roberts created our second goal of the game scored by Robson to put us 2-1 up at the break.  Good to see Richardson & Ford back from injury and with Reddington all three were introduced at half time, the penny had finally dropped with the lads that if we did pass and move Shirebrook wouldn’t be able to live with us and that’s what happened for us to score our third goal of the game which was nicely taken by Ecott.  Shirebrook scored their second when the referee awarded a penalty for pushing in the box. We then had a spell of about ten minutes when we should have added three or four to our goal tally but for some fine goal keeping from Shirebrook and some poor finishing the score remained 3-2.   In the last few minutes of the game a through ball by Jones put Ecott through on goal with two defenders to be a the chose to shoot earlyand it struck one of the defenders sending the keeper the wrong way to put us 4-2 up!  With Walesby now dominating the game Jones gained a fifth when he broke out of midfield and timed his run perfectly to receive a ball from Lee to slot home.

After what I felt was a poor first half, it was a different game in the second, with some of the best passing I have seen so far this season.  For me the team need to get it in their heads that the game has two halves not just one!

Good performances by Ecott, Harrison, Breed, Jones & Lee who I thought worked especially hard up front & was very unlucky not to be on the score sheet!

Well done lads

Adam

10th October 2009 League Match – WJFC v Robin Hood 1-9 (Robson 3,Musgrove 2,Lee,Roberts,Ecott,Harrison)

Man of the Match – Ben Lee

Managers Match Report:

Back to the league programme – Walesbystarted well withalotof the play, but great goalkeeping and a resolute defence we just couldn’t break the dead lock, then against run of play Robin Hood broke down the right and a fine cross and header put Robin Hood 1-0 up.  The team continued to dominate the play and with 10 mins left to go to half time Ecott had a shot deflected for a corner, Robson tookthe corner swang it in and the keeper failed to hold it 1-1.  Within minutes Robson broke play up 25 m out and shot to beat the keeper to his right 2-1, deserved lead.  Straight from there kick off the ball was lost in midfield and dribbled down the right by D.Rodgers and crossed to C.Rodgers who’s shot went for another corner, Robson did the same again making it 3 and his hat trick. 3-1. Half time.

A couple of changes at half time did not seam to change our performance, Lee now playing down the right ran in on goal to pull it back for Musgrove to drive home from 6yds. 4-1.  Roberts back in the fold after missing the week previous with a back injury did some fine work near the edge of the box, got his shot off to make it 5-1 .  Lee now was getting on the ball a lot more and a run and cross saw the keeper parry it up for Musgrovetohead home to make it 6-1.  Robin Hood was still trying to have a go at us but we were now playing with added confidence,  Lee made another run this time he got on the score sheet cutting in from the right and slotting passed the keeper 7-1.  Ecott stole the ball on the left carried it forward made the keeper save it but it was too strong to hold and crossed the line.8-1  Harrison was pushed up front see how he fared but it was not long before he got one 9-1.

Great performance everyone- it’s so easy to loose your shape when you have so much play well done.  Good performances -Robson, Harrison,Breed, Reddington and Grafton first half ,Lee second half.

3rd October 2009- Notts Shield - Southchurch (Clifton) v WJFC 1-3 (Ecott,Robson,Lee)

Man of the Match – Ben Jones

Managers Match Report:

NottsShield- A long journey and wet and windy conditions,we kept the ball down and playedas well as we could to our strength, we had a lot of good play but just not enough to get into a goal scoring position with the wind against us and if we did the goalkeeper was up to it. Southchurch were in the game with a wind advantage and some fast forwards, and it was there number 10 who was giving us a torrid time and when he broke down the left and crossed from the bye line there was a team member to stroke the ball in. 1-0 Southchurch.

Half time and 1-0 down it was just a matter of saying keep playing the same way and we will create more chances now we had got the wind on our backs.  It was not long before we were back on level terms when a quick roll out from Jones in goal to the full back, where we playedwith some good control and passing movement through midfield to the wing, Reddington picked the ball up and shot down the left as he had been doing for most of the game, he pulled it back to the edge of the box where Ecott was there to pass it by the keeper.1-1(good football) We were now taking a bit more control but still cautious of there two forwards pace, chances were coming but there keeper was smothering everything he stopped. A shot from C. Rodgers the ball was put out for a corner, Robson took the corner and it curled in at the front post 2-1. Walesby(nothing more than we deserved).  Southchurch never gave up the fight but we had got control now and started to create more chances, after a little re-shuffle with Taylor moving into midfield, he played a nice through ball to Lee who took up the challenge of beating two defenders and placing it past the keeper 3-1 Walesby. Southchurch had one last push but could not break us down, Jones stopped what was in front of him all the game to be awarded the m.o.m from Southchurch.

Great performance in windy conditions, good performances by Harrison, Breed, Taylor and Grafton especially first half. Robson kept up his good form with Reddington showing some fine wing play.

Well done everyone.

26th September 2009  – League Match – Rainworth Rangers Red v WJFC  0-6 (Lee 2,D.Rodgers,Roberts,Harrison,Robson)

Man of the Match – Ewan Robson

Managers Match Report:

What a performance, this is the Walesby I know and love, from the start the team took to the 3G pitch and got their control and passing off straight away. It was not long before we were creating chances, after 10mins Lee was put through while Rangers were trying to play the offside trap, the keeper was quick off his line but as Lee rounded him he pulled him down. Roberts took the penalty but the keeper made a great save low to his bottom right post. Not before long the chances came along with the team holding the game in their half, Lee started off the scoring with another fine run, rounding the keeper and slotting home 1-0. The team were playing some great football withRangersstruggling to cope with them when Musgrovewas brought down just outside the box to the right side, they set up a wall but Robson curled it over and round to the bottom corner, what a free kick 2-0. More chances went begging withthekeepermaking some good saves, Roberts made it 3-0 before half time with a good solo effort, rounding the keeper to score.

D Rodgers went on at half time to replace Taylor, it was not long before he was making an impact on the right creating a couple of chances for the forwards but it was he himself that got the fourth with a fine run down the right, cutting in to shoot passed the keeper from 18yards 4-0.  By this time Rangers didn’t know what to do with us, Reddington had worked the left wing well all the game, Rodgers was doing the same on the right and Roberts and Robson controlling the centre, it was not long before Lee was on target again to get his second and our fifth5-0. Robson and Roberts earned a rest in midfield so I swapped them with the two centre backs, Harrison and Breed. Harrison was not in there long before he had created himself a chance and scored 6-0.

Best team performance of the season so far. Excellent play and attitude by everyone. Well pleased.

19th September 2009 -Benevolent Cup  –  Rainworth Tigers v WJFC 2-1 (Lee)

Man of the Match -Ewan Robson

Managers Match Report:

Even a slower start than last weeks game, Tigers were on top for the first half, good handling by Jones in goal and strong tackling by Harrison & Breed in the centre of defence kept the Tigers at bay. Tigers opened the scoring and deservedly so with a quick break from midfield, played out to the right and pulled back to the edge of the box with the forward to score. With one of the rare opportunties  on getting into the Tigers half we got a corner. From the corner the ball was deflected out to Lee on the edge of the box where he curled it back into the bottom corner. 1-1 at half time was flattering to us, with most of the conversation at half time being about getting the ball under control and simple passing.

The second half became more of a equal game but with a break down the right side for the Tigers wide man, he pulled it back to the edge of the box once again to one of there two midfielders who were un- marked for him to finish. Walesby finally started to apply themselves and looked they might get an equaliser but left it too late.

Good performances from Taylor,Breed,Harrison and Jones. Better second half by everyone.

12th September 2009 – League Match  – WJFC v Q.E Rangers 3-0 (Ecott, Lee 2)

Man of the Match  -Ewan Robson

Managers Match Report :

The team started slowly and gave Q.E the chance to settle, eventually after about 10mins we started to take control, this was due to stout defending from the back four. A quick release from Jones in goal set Rodgers away down the left, who played Lee in up front. Lee turned inside to play Ecott in to finish.

At 1-0 the team settled but could not capitalise with most of the play upto half time.

Straight  from the  kick off Ecott put Lee in for his first league goal for the club, the team then started to dominate play in Q.e.’s half, the second goal gave us a platform to bring on the subs and give the players the opportunity to put in a performance. Lee struck a third half way through the half to make it comfortable win.

Good performances from Robson,Roberts,Taylor and Lee.Well played everyone.
